The shocking update to the textbook

The other day, on a certain program, there was a topic about the Reiwa textbook being updated.
There was a quiz show on.
Here are two that really shocked me!
[ 1] The earliest human
"Australopithecus" Approximately 4.2 million to 3.9 million years ago.
I learned that they were the oldest humans at the time...
Current textbooks say that Sahelanthropus tchadensis lived about 700 years ago.
It was discovered in the Republic of Chad in 2001, and although its brain was the same size as a chimpanzee (about 350cc), it is highly likely that it walked upright on two legs. Its skull is known by the nickname Toumai.
Back then, I was desperate to remember the long horizontal letters lol

[2] My name is XX is not used?
The English textbook I used in junior high school was "NEW CROWN" (some of you may have used "NEW HOROZON").
At that time, when introducing yourself in English, you would write "My name is XX" .
However, in the updated textbooks, it has apparently been changed to "I am ____" !!
When I went abroad or at English conversation school, I thought that "I am" was certainly a common phrase...
"My name is" is a rather formal expression and is rarely used by native speakers.
So it looks like that has been changed.
I truly wish I had been taught English that I could use on a daily basis!

- A side note -
When I was a student, I hated math the most, or rather, I was the worst at it.
As long as you can do addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, there shouldn't be any problems, right?
In short, I feel like if I can do the math I learned in elementary school, I can survive!
I didn't understand the concept of learning at the time.
Now, there are times when I think, "If only I had studied a little more seriously."
To be honest, I don't have any regrets! If you don't understand something, you can just learn it when the time comes.
I find learning more interesting after entering the workforce.
Working on the premise that "it will be necessary (useful) someday"
Taking action on something that is "needed now (useful)" requires a different motivation to begin with.
By the way, when I was writing this digression, I suddenly wondered what the difference is between "arithmetic" and "mathematics."
I asked AI Sensei.
Arithmetic (Elementary School) | Mathematics (junior high school and above) | |
Main Objective | Improving everyday calculation and arithmetic skills | Logical thinking and abstract understanding |
Points to consider | Exact answer | The process to arrive at the answer |
Target audience and content | Specific numbers, quantities, and shapes | Algebraic expressions, minus, functions, proofs |
way of thinking | Calculations in specific situations | Abstract, rule-based thinking |
Information is not knowledge
Information does not simply accumulate; it is only by using it to take action and experience that it becomes your own knowledge.
That's why it's important to take action yourself.
